Kory and Alix Southern Oaks Plantation Wedding New Orleans Lafayette, LA Wedding Photographer
lix and Kory’s wedding at Southern Oaks Plantation was one of those weddings that I dreamt about as a little girl. It was filled with passion, family, surprises.
I went out to New Orleans the night before their wedding, to capture their rehearsal dinner at the Pelican Club. So many family members came in from all over the world to witness their union. It was so heart warming to see all that love for 2 people in one room. And the food! Oh my word. So incredible.
The next morning I woke at 5am to start capturing Kory and the girls getting ready. When the sun began to rise it was time to play with the light and shadows. I was able to capture some really gorgeous details shots, as well as Kory overlooking downtown. My 2nd shooter arrived, and I went up, up, and up even higher to capture the guys getting ready. My fear of heights is mild, but present lol. Those floor to ceiling windows make one more than a little dizzy. I was inspired by some of the images the bride’s mother had sent to me prior to the wedding, and I wanted to capture a unique image them. One of my all time favorite images! Kory and Alix in a double exposure getting ready.
Once all were dolled up, we proceeded to the Southern Oaks Plantation. This was not only my first time capturing a wedding at this gorgeous plantation, but it was also my first New Orleans wedding. I knew there would be some twists, and surprises, but dang I wish someone would have captured my expression as they all unfolded. Out of this world.
The ceremony was perfection. Our surrounding serene. After the wedding party exited, they reemerged with a 2nd line. A jazz band lead them back through the crowd. The music was contagious. All were dancing, celebrating! Then BANG! Streamers poured down from the sky onto us all. I know my jaw was on the floor.
The party continued inside, with more amazing food, sweet and savory treats, specialized coffee and beignets. The guys went outside to enjoy a cigar break while wearing the most adorable glasses. I love fun details at weddings! They are what make your wedding day about you.
The day ended as we went back out to the front of the plantation… from around the corner the couple emerged in a horse and buggy leading their very own Mardi Gras parade! More music, fun costumes, and beads!!
Such a beautiful couple, gorgeous venue, and talented photographer ?
