Madeline and Avery Wedding Day part 1… Lafayette, LA wedding photographer The Gouguenheim
Madeline and Avery were wed at The Gouguenheim in New Iberia, LA on the most beautiful day. The venue itself is gorgeous… from the large wrap around deck on the 2nd story to the rooms available for the bride (and groom) to get ready in. I arrived early to capture the girls getting ready, and to shoot the detail shots. It is a time where I can capture the traditional “dress shot” and then push my creativity to capture the dress in a more artistic way. There was one room in the girls suite that called to me for the dress shot. It quickly became one of my favorite dress shots to date. Every ring, piece of jewelry, dress will tell me a different story, will ignite my imagination on a different tale. As they should. No 2 weddings or brides are alike, and neither should their images.
Madeline chose to do a first look with her father, which tugs at my heart. Such a special moment, and bless her dad’s heart I captured his tears and all. Madeline wanted to wait until she walked down the aisle for Avery to see her… so lucky for us the venue has that amazing 2nd story deck, and I was able to capture some shots of the whole bridal party prior to the ceremony. She was so worried he was going to peek! He was a good man and honored her wishes 🙂 One shot that Madeline had requested was a shot of her hands, her mother’s hands, and her grandma’s hands together. Hands are always a focus in my personal work… to me they tell so much. And when I think back to my own grandma Momoo, I remember her hands. They were so soft, her nails always perfectly polished…
The guys arrived, and I went to spend some time with just them. And man they had me super entertained!! I had spotted a wall I wanted to shoot near when I came out for her rehearsal. I just loved the color and texture of it. So I set the guys up there to start. Normally the guys take a little while to warm up, but this group was way ahead of me with poses and ideas of their own. Once we were done by the wall, we went back over to the venue. The Gouguenheim has a beautiful fountain as you enter the gate to the venue, so I knew I wanted a few shots there. And off the guys went again with the most hilarious ideas. I give them credit, they were very cooperative and let me capture some serious ones as well.
